Things To Look For In A Quality Dining Room Set

The dining room is one of the most important rooms of the house. Whether you’re entertaining a lot of guests or just feeding your family, the dining room should be a place of free-flowing discussion. With the right dining room set, this can easily be accomplished.

The most substantial piece of furniture in your dining room is the table. Finding the perfect table can be a challenge, but if you know what you’re looking for it can be a breeze.

Before you do anything else, measure your dining room. You’ll want about three feet from the table to the wall for comfortable seating. Decide on the table’s dimensions that the room can handle.

Next, ask yourself how many people you need to seat. This includes guests. If you have a large room, then finding a large table to accommodate it without overstuffing it should be your main goal. However, if you have a smaller room, look for a table that has a few leaves to double the size of the table when guests are over.

If you do buy a table with a leaf, look for one that disguises the leaf in the middle of the table. This not only saves space and looks better, but it will also save you the hassle of hiding a clunky leaf.

The next step is to figure out what shape you need. If you prefer traditional tables, look for rectangular shapes. Rectangle tables fit most dining rooms and can accommodate a lot of guests.

A round table is also a classic that promotes conversation, but doesn’t generally fit a lot of guests. Many round tables come with leaves that can transform a round table to an oval shape that is very pleasing to the eye and adds curves to the room.

A nice alternative to the round table is a drop-leaf table. These tables can easily be compacted to fit any space and can just as easily open up to a round table.

Newer, contemporary trends for dining room sets are octagonal. While these are interesting and unique, they can be harder to find.
After picking a shape, decide on a color. If the room has a traditional style, stick with wood finishes. If you prefer modern, consider a glass-top option.

While glossy finishes are always appealing, only buy a glossy table if you and your family can handle it. Glossy finishes tend to show nicks before a more matte coating will. If you have young children at home, a glossy finish can look tattered within months and may be harder to repair.

After you find the perfect table, make sure you get appropriate seating to match. Chairs should fit comfortably around the table and you should buy as many as the table can seat.
