NEHMA Hosts Family Art Days in the Merrill-Cazier Library
LOGAN-The Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art (NEHMA) at Utah State University is continuing its Family Art Days program with upcoming events. The events will be hosted by NEHMA, but will take place in the Merrill-Cazier Library while the museum is closed for construction. The next Family Art Day takes place Saturday, Jan. 21, in the Merrill-Cazier Library Art Book Room (room 042) from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
The upcoming event is a zine workshop. Anyone can be a self-published author and artist with a do-it-yourself zine. The workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to view the Merrill-Cazier Library’s fantastic collection of little magazines (zines) and art books. Afterward, NEHMA and Merrill-Cazier Library staff members will assist aspiring authors and artists of all ages in writing, designing and arranging zines and pamphlets. Participants will leave with a rough draft of their own zine to share with the world.
The Family Art Days program is a monthly program held on the third Saturday of each month and is free and open to the public. These family-friendly events provide families with a creative outlet and resources for a quality learning opportunity catered to all ages. The Family Art Days will continue on a monthly basis. Upcoming Family Art Days include Cache County High School Clean Air Poster Award Ceremony and Clean Air Hang Tag Making Saturday, Feb. 18; Mapmaking Saturday, March 18; and Book Making Saturday, April 15.
“NEHMA’s Family Art Days provides fun, educational activities to our community for free, said NEHMA Executive Director, Katie Lee-Koven. “During the winter months we host these inside while in the summer months they are offered through our Mobile Art Truck at the Cache Valley Gardner’s Market. Every month offers a different art activity and we offer something that all ages can enjoy. We are excited to partner with the Merrill-Cazier Library while we are closed to continue offering this program.”
NEHMA is located on the USU Logan Campus. The museum is currently closed for construction, but will continue to host events such as Family Art Days at other venues like the Merrill-Cazier Library. See the museum’s website (artmusuem.usu.edu) to stay updated on upcoming museum events.
