National Service Recognition Day Event In Las Vegas April 3

AmeriCorps Members To Be Recognized During Red Rock Elementary School Service Project

On National Service Recognition Day Tuesday, April 3, the AmeriCorps members serving in Las Vegas will be honored and recognized for their service. This sixth annual National Service Recognition Day event will be held at Red Rock Elementary School, 408 Upland Blvd.

From 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the ReInvent Schools Las Vegas (RSLV) AmeriCorps team, along with the Nevada Statewide Coalition Partnership AmeriCorpsmembers, will continue their ongoing beautification efforts at the school by painting a large map of the United States as a learning tool for the students. Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman will speak to the group at 1 p.m. and conclude the project by adding a star for Las Vegas to the map.

City of Las Vegas AmeriCorps members serve more than 575 students at nine RSLV schools. RSLV is a partnership between the Clark County School District and the city of Las Vegas, in collaboration with local businesses and nonprofit organizations. These community schools are hubs where students and their families are assisted. RSLV focuses on aligning academic achievement, expanded learning, integrated student supports, and family and community engagement.

In Nevada this year, 327 AmeriCorps state members are helping to meet local needs throughout the state at 78 host sites in 11 Nevada counties. AmeriCorps members serve by mentoring 640 children and youth, assisting 880 people in rural communities to access healthcare options to help fight opioid and prescription drug abuse, and restore 2,700 acres by removing fire fuel hazards and invasive species. National Service Recognition Day is an opportunity to recognize the dedication and commitment of more than one million Americans who have chosen to serve their country through AmeriCorps, and to encourage more Americans to follow in their footsteps in service in the State of Nevada and across the nation.
