Five Proclamations to be Read at Pocatello City Council Meeting
A quintet of proclamations from Pocatello Mayor Brian Blad will be read at Thursday’s meeting of the City Council.
The first will be read by Councilman Jim Johnston and establishes April 2018 as Civitan Awareness month. The proclamation encourages “the residents of Pocatello to actively support and take pride in the worthwhile efforts of this international service organization and in the work of Civitans in our community.” The edict was requested by the Bannock Civitan Club, Civitan Twisted Stitchers Club, Junior Civitan Club and Friends of the Civitan Club.
Second is a proclamation making April 2018 Occupational Therapy Month. Idaho State University’s Occupational Therapy and Occupational Therapy Assistant programs and Portneuf Medical Center requested the edict. It will be read by Councilman Roger Bray and spurs residents to “recognize the contributions of Occupational Therapy Practitioners and express appreciation for their commitment to promoting evidence-based practice in the hope of achieving optimum quality of life, health, and well-being for both today and tomorrow.”
Third is an edict proclaiming April 2018 to be Fair Housing Month in Pocatello. The proclamation will be read by Councilman Rick Cheatum and urges “citizens and businesses to increase their awareness of the Fair Housing Act, as amended, so that all citizens will receive equal opportunities for housing in our community.” The proclamation was requested by the City of Pocatello Community Development Block Grant Advisory Committee.
The fourth makes April 16 through April 22 Soccer Week in the city and encourages “residents to support these incredible athletes by attending a few matches April 20, 21 or 22 at the Bannock Fields and Portneuf Wellness Complex.” The edict will be read by Councilwoman Linda Leeuwrik and was requested by the Portneuf Valley Soccer Club. The club is hosting its 31st Annual PVSCSpring Classic soccer tournament during the dates.
Fifth is a proclamation establishing April 3 to be National Service Recognition Day. The proclamation was requested by AmeriCorps and Senior Corps. It will be read by Councilwoman Heidi Adamson and “urges residents to recognize the positive impact of national service in our community, to thank those who serve; and to find ways to give back to their communities.”
Thursday’s meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
