SAMPE Honors GOED’s Aerospace Pathways Program

SALT LAKE CITY (June 11, 2018) — The Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) was awarded the Delmonte Award for Excellence for the development of the Utah Aerospace Pathways program (UAP), presented by the Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineers North America (SAMPE NA).

“Utah’s UAP program is remarkable in its goal to create trained workers our industry needs. This novel partnership is a shining example of the spirit of the Delmonte Award,” said Gregg Balko, SAMPE CEO.

UAP provides Utah students the opportunity to graduate high school with a certificate in aerospace manufacturing and begin an aerospace manufacturing career. Students engage in externships with participating aerospace companies where students receive work-based learning opportunities with industry experts. This unique collaboration between education and industry not only educates students, but helps fill the talent shortage in the aerospace industry.

“We want to thank SAMPE for their recognition of the Utah Aerospace Pathways program and their support in the aerospace sector,” said Ginger Chinn, GOED managing director. “We have received outstanding success with the pathways program and the Delmonte Award validates our hard work.”

The SAMPE Delmonte Award for Excellence was established by John Delmonte in 1981. It is intended to encourage outstanding contributions in the field of materials and processes throughout the world; to acknowledge major achievements by honoring distinguished individuals in the field of materials and processes; and disseminate those technical achievements among the members of the materials and processes community.
