Thousands of Johns Manville employees take part in company’s first Global Community Day

Company has seen an 85 percent increase in employee volunteerism in
recent years

DENVER–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Johns Manville (JM), a Berkshire Hathaway company and leading building
products manufacturer, held its first “Global Community Day” earlier
this month to help local charities and promote employee volunteerism.
Nearly half of the company’s 7,600 employees worldwide participated in
more than 50 local events and activities.

Global Community Day was organized as part of Johns Manville’s
employee-driven Corporate Social Responsibility program. JM employees
have demonstrated their desire to support their communities by
participating in company-sponsored community outreach activities on an
increasingly frequent basis. The company tracks volunteer statistics and
has seen twice the number of volunteers and an 85 percent
increase
in volunteer hours since 2011. In 2017 alone, JM logged
over 12,000 volunteer hours by almost 4,700 volunteers who helped with
nearly 270 community outreach projects.

In the Denver area, where Johns Manville is headquartered, employees
observed Global Community Day by working at local homeless shelters;
serving lunch at the Ronald McDonald House; volunteering at the Denver
Botanical Gardens and the Seniors’ Resource Center; sending care
packages to the troops overseas; participating in a Habitat for Humanity
build; and volunteering with other organizations. Two of the largest
activities were separate bike builds with Denver-based Wish for Wheels,
a nonprofit organization that gives new bicycles and helmets to kids in
low-income communities.

At plant locations around the world, employees hosted a charity kickball
tournament; volunteered at animal shelters; adopted streets and picked
up trash; conducted food and clothing drives; delivered Meals on Wheels;
collected new and fun bed sheets for pediatric oncology patients;
provided landscaping services; and participated in other volunteer
activities.

“Our employees understand the value of getting involved in the areas
where we live and work,” said Mary Rhinehart, JM’s President and CEO.
“Our commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility – which includes
volunteerism, financial support and in-kind donations – helps build
stronger communities and creates a positive company culture. It is just
one of the ways we deliver a positive JM Experience to those
around us.”
