Planetary' Scale Topic for Science Unwrapped Friday, Nov. 30

Utah State University’s Science Unwrapped, the public outreach program of the College of Science, continues its “Powers of 10” series with “Planetary” Friday, Nov. 30, featuring USU geologist Carol Dehler. 

The free gathering, open to all ages, begins at 7 p.m in the Emert Auditorium, Room 130, of the Eccles Science Learning Center on USU’s Logan campus. 

Refreshments and hands-on learning activities conducted by USU students and faculty members, along with community groups, follow Dehler’s talk, which is the third presentation of Science Unwrapped’s 10th anniversary series. In addition, guests are invited to being their “mystery” rocks and fossils for identification by USU geologists.

Dehler, an associate professor in USU’s Department of Geology, was recently named a Fellow of the Geological Society of America. Her research interests include early Earth systems and the “Snowball Earth” hypothesis. Her teaching interests include physical and historical geology, stratigraphy and sedimentology.

Initiated by the college in February 2009, Science Unwrapped introduces science in a relaxed, entertaining manner. Presentations begin with a brief lecture, followed by hands-on learning activities and refreshments. Each event draws several hundred guests, with attendees ranging from preschoolers to senior citizens.
