USU-Tooele Hires New Director of Student Services
Utah State University-Tooele has hired Sonja Jensen as the new director of Student Services. Jensen started her new position October 8.
“In my short time at USU, I have come to really appreciate the dedication and commitment to students’ success displayed by all who work here,” said Jensen. “From Logan and throughout the regional campuses, students are the priority, just as I feel it should be.”
Jensen will oversee all support functions at USU-Tooele as they relate to student support and success. She will focus on student persistence, retention, and graduation. In addition, she will supervise USU-Tooele’s academic advisors, testing and writing centers, tutoring programs, recruitment, and engagement efforts.
With over 15 years of experience in higher education student affairs and administration positions, Jensen will bring valuable insights and ideas to help ensure USU-Tooele students are successful. She worked at the University of Utah as the assistant dean of students, an academic advisor, and most recently as a development officer. She has also held positions at Colorado State University and Iowa State University.
According to Jensen, one of the things that most excites her about this job is being able to work at a land-grant institution again. “USU has a rich history, tradition, and pride that are interwoven with community support and engagement because of its land-grant mission. I look forward to working with students in an effort to help them achieve their educational goals.”
When Jensen is not busy supporting USU-Tooele students, she can be found spending time outdoors with her family or washing down an enchilada with a Diet Coke while watching Good Will Hunting.
