PaintCare Announces Innovative Recycling Grant Competition
January 15, 2019
Three grants of up to $100K will be awarded for projects developing
new methods to recycle latex house paint; Individuals or organizations
across the U.S. may submit entries
DENVER–(BUSINESS WIRE)–PaintCare,
a national non-profit running paint recycling programs across the
country, today announced its inaugural Innovative Recycling Grant
Competition. The competition was created to identify and accelerate the
commercialization of novel technologies for re-using leftover latex
house paint.
“Since PaintCare launched in Colorado, we’ve recycled nearly 1.6 million
gallons of paint statewide,” said Fred Gabriel, PaintCare’s director of
operations. “However, there are still very few viable options for the
paint we collect that is an unmarketable color, spoiled, dried out or
has been frozen and thawed too many times. We see an enormous amount of
untapped potential in this small fraction of difficult-to-recycle paint,
and invite all teams, businesses, and entrepreneurs with a passion for
environmental stewardship to submit.”
PaintCare will conduct three separate competitions using funding from
the PaintCare recycling programs currently operating in California,
Colorado, and Connecticut. The winner of each will be awarded a grant of
up to $100,000 to develop their ideas. All new products or methods will
be used to benefit the state that provided the project’s funding.
Continued Gabriel: “The entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in
Colorado and we look forward to seeing what innovations are put forward,
and working to bring these projects to life.”
The competition is open to either individuals or organizations located
in one of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia. Please see
the Official
Rules for complete details about eligibility.
Applications are due by March 22, 2019. PaintCare expects to announce
grant winners by April 30, 2019.
