Healthgrades Announces America’s Best Hospitals™

DENVER–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Healthgrades,
the leading online resource for information about physicians and
hospitals, today released America’s
Best Hospitals™ for 2019. The recipients of the America’s 50, 100
and 250 Best Hospitals Awards™ — which represent the top 1, 2 and 5
percent of hospitals in the nation, respectively — demonstrate superior
clinical outcomes across the majority of common inpatient conditions and
procedures.
This marks the first year that Healthgrades has released one
consolidated list – America’s Best Hospitals. Previously, the company
released two awards: the Healthgrades Distinguished Hospital Award for
Clinical Excellence (DHACE), which represented the top 250 hospitals in
the country, and America’s 50 and 100 Best Hospitals. With the combined
America’s Best Hospitals achievement, consumers have access to a more
comprehensive view of hospital quality across the U.S., so they can more
easily find the highest-quality hospitals for their needs.

The Healthgrades analysis revealed that, on average, America’s Best
Hospitals outperformed their peers in treating a core group of
conditions that account for more than 80 percent of mortalities in areas
evaluated, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, respiratory
failure, sepsis and stroke.
Patients treated in hospitals named as America’s Best Hospitals™ have,
on average, a 27.1 percent lower risk of dying than if they were treated
in hospitals that did not receive this award. If all hospitals, as a
group, performed similarly to America’s Best Hospitals, 168,165 lives
could potentially have been saved.
