USU College of Science Recognizes Top Scholars of 2019

Utah State University’s College of Science hosted an awards ceremony and banquet April 3, 2019, to recognize the college’s top scholars.

“Today, we honor our students for their hard work and for their service,” said College of Science Dean Maura Hagan. “We also honor our faculty and staff for their mentorship of students, excellence in research and their efforts in providing meaningful learning opportunities.”
 
Valedictorian for the college is Jesse Steadman and the college’s Scholar of the Year is David Maughan.

Sarah Ellis, Devin Froerer, Gretchen Gilbert Knight and Christian Peterson were recognized as Dean’s Scholars.

Bryce Frederickson is the college’s Peak Prize Undergraduate Researcher of the Year and Hannah Demler was recognized as the college’s Undergraduate Teaching Fellow of the Year.

Calvin Luu was honored as the college’s 2018-2019 Legacy of Utah State nominee and Levi Wilkes was recognized as the college’s nominee for USU Career Services’ USU Student Employee of the Year.

College of Science student senator Abigail Longaker Service was recognized for her service during the 2018-19 academic year.  

Graduate Student (PhD) Researcher of the Year is Bo Hu and Graduate Student (MS) Researcher of the Year is Tanner Robison.

Brandon Ashley was recognized as Graduate Student Teacher of the Year.

Katriel Cloward received the college’s 2019 Staff Excellence Award.

Faculty Teacher of the Year is Lauren Lucas and Undergraduate Research Mentor of the Year is Nick Dickenson

Dennis Welker was recognized as Undergraduate Faculty Mentor of the Year.

Lisa Berreau was honored as Faculty Researcher of the Year and Lance Seefeldt was named Graduate Mentor of the Year.

Carol von Dohlen received the college’s Faculty University Service Award.

Jan Sojka was honored for 40 years of service and Stephen Bialkowski was recognized for 35 years of service. 

Honored for 30 years of service were Diane Alston, Adele Cutler, Richard Cutler, J.R. Dennison, Joe Koebbe, Teresa Passey, Greg Podgorski, Kimberly Sullivan and Vincent Wickwar.

Bob Brown, Scott Ensign, Mark Riffe and Lance Seefeldt were honored for 25 years of service and Brett Adams, Lisa Berreau and James Coburn were recognized for 20 years of service.

Michelle Fleck, Joanie Hevel, Ted Campbell, James Pitts and Larry Smith were honored for 15 years of service.

Kevin Moon and Justin Jones were recognized as first-year faculty members.

Richard Mueller and Stephen Bialkowski were honored upon their retirement from the university.
