Museum + Music Brings Together International Artworks, Food and Live Music

The Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art (NEHMA) at Utah State University will hold a welcome event Wednesday, Aug. 28, for the USU community, featuring a buffet dinner by Tandoori Oven, a live performance of traditional Indian music and two new exhibitions featuring international artworks and bilingual art labels.
“Through this event, we want to celebrate how international cultures enrich our lives here in Cache Valley through food, music and art,” said Katie Lee-Koven, executive director and chief curator of the museum.
Curated by USU professor of musicology Christopher Scheer, the Museum + Music concert is titled Transnational Landscapes: Classical Indian Music of the Hindustani Traditions. Welcoming master sitarist Pt. Deobrat Mishra and tabla virtuoso Prashant Mishra, the concert will explore the traditions of Hindustani music as they live in our modern world. Through international music and visual art, the audience is invited to consider the cultural landscape, one that transcends national borders.
About the Exhibitions
Haikus, Modernism and Stanton McDonald-Wright: Stanton MacDonald–Wright’s “Haiga Portfolio” (1965–1966) blends Eastern and Western influences, pairing vibrant modernist paintings with haikus written by some of Japan’s most influential poets. Haikus, Modernism, and Stanton McDonald-Wright features artwork labels written in both English and Japanese.
Latinx from the NEHMA Collection: Latinx works of art represent a growing part of the NEHMA collection and reflect a significant influence in Western American art. The exhibition features new acquisitions by influential Latinx artists, as well as several paños, artworks created on handkerchiefs by artists incarcerated in Texas penitentiaries. Latinx from the NEHMA Collection features artwork labels written in both English and Spanish.

- $20 per person, $10 children under 12, children under 6 free
NEHMA members will receive a 20% discount; USU faculty and staff who join the membership program through payroll deduction at the Conceptualist level at $12.50 per month will receive free tickets to the event.
