Come join Utah State University’s College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences for its 2019 CAAS Week celebration, Sept. 16-21. With over 80 degrees in the college, the week celebrates all the students, faculty and the vast interests that are found in the college.
“When it came to picking a theme for CAAS Week, we wanted something simple that really reflected the college,” said Sakia Brost, CAAS senator. “We needed something to show the diversity that exists within the college. The College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences is truly ‘Outstanding in EVERY Field’.”
Some of the events of the week include the Day on the Patio with CAAS clubs and famous shish kabobs, the annual tractor parade, a campout on the Quad sponsored by the Outdoor Product Design and Development program, and a Run the Runway 5K at the Logan-Cache airport. CAAS shirts sporting this year’s theme can be purchased at any of the events.
Members of the CAAS Council, who work with the senator to plan the week’s festivities, are particularly excited about Tuesday night’s activity: An outdoor MOOvie at the Caine Dairy, with a screening of “Home on the Range.”
“This year we wanted to try something that hadn't been done in a while. We tossed around many ideas and landed on having a movie – not just any movie, but a MOOvie at the Caine Dairy. This is a great opportunity to see the robotic dairy and to hang out with fellow CAAS students while watching a movie under the stars,” Brost said.
Week-long events include a food drive, with the donations being available to students through the SNAC office. Utah Farm Bureau is once again sponsoring a digital scavenger hunt that students can participate in throughout the week.
Thursday evening is the annual CAAS Awards and Honors Banquet recognizing students’ outstanding accomplishments and also announcing this year’s CAAS Alumni Hall of Honor inductee.
