Applied Mathematics Seminar: Some Topics in Optimal Control
October 4, 2019
Abstract: This talk will introduce the subject of optimal control (where optimization and control meet). We’ll discuss several applications, current research problems, and some of Matt’s recent contributions to the field.
Short Bio: Matt is from Texas. He completed his Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M, his Master’s in Aerospace Engineering from Texas A&M, and his PhD in Aerospace Engineering from UT Austin. Along the way, he took a discrete math class where he fell in love with the joy of writing a proof. The mathematical journey culminated with an advanced course in Functional Analysis, in which he struggled immensely, but was amazed by the beauty. After working for a private research company for 5 years, Matt is now as Assistant Professor in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering working in the areas of optimization and control.
