UCUR Art Exhibit Submissions

Utah’s history, even before statehood, is a story worth viewing from the perspective of gender. What do indigenous traditions and archeological evidence tell us about the women of the region before colonization? What do pioneer records and diaries reveal about the experience of gender in Utah’s territorial and early statehood period? How have Utah’s “firsts� such as being the first state to enact woman suffrage, and the first to send a woman to the US Senate shaped the state’s identity? What role do women of every sort play in Utah’s present economy, religious environment, politics, and culture, and where will women lead us in the future?

This exhibition, part of the Utah Conference on Undergraduate Research 2020 invites the submission of works of visual art in two or three dimensions that touch on the theme of Utah Women: Past, Present, and Future. The works will be installed by the artists and exhibited for one day (February 7, 2020) in the Taggart Student Center at Utah State University. The juror will select the prize-winning works, and there will also be an audience-choice award.
