What is the hidden curriculum? We understand that “the hidden curriculum consists of the ‘norms, values, and expectations’ that govern interactions among students, faculty, staff and administrators,� and the hidden curriculum poses particular challenges for low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented students (Insider Higher Ed, 2014) especially in STEM fields. Join this discussion considering how we can identify diversity issues by acknowledging hidden curriculum and address inclusiveness in the classroom.
Dr. Idalis Villanueva, PhD
Dr. Idalis Villanueva is an Assistant Professor in Engineering Education at USU, and is an award winning faculty researcher who was recently recognized with the Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers. Idalis’ teaching interests are focused on entry level engineering courses that incorporate experiential and social-constructivist learning with motivational constructs to form well-rounded engineering professionals.
