Exploring the Intersectionality of Race & Gender

Although 2020 will be known as the year of the global pandemic, it will also be recognized for years to come as the year of a dramatic shift in the discussion of race in America. This racial equality dialogue builds on the ongoing discussion of women’s equity propelled by the #MeToo movement. Join us for a direct and engaging panel discussion about race and gender in America and in Utah specifically.

As we look at the lived experiences of women of color, we will explore important issues related to navigating the workplace environment and continue with the unique challenges that are invisible to many of us in various settings such as religious, political, and community. The panel will also examine the concepts of power and identity and how these contribute to the experience of marginalization and oppression for many women. Finally, we will discuss how each of us can personally challenge race and gender norms, break stereotypes, empower each other, and learn to celebrate our similarities and differences. In addition, we will share ideas about specific, concrete steps we can take right now in order to promote increased racial and gender equality in Utah.
