Schooled in War: The Great War and Transformation of the Utah Agricultural College

In connection with the centennial celebration of the end of World War I, this presentation will look back at how the "war to end all wars" impacted Utah through the lens of the Utah Agricultural College and Cache Valley. While enlistment frenzies drained the campus of men and left female students preparing to form a "Legion of Death" in case of German invasion, civilians on the home front dealt with anti-German sentiment, an influx of outsiders training at the newly expanded college, Victory Gardens on Old Main Hill, and the devastation of the Spanish influenza epidemic.
Presenter Emily Wheeler is a USU alumna with degrees in history and landscape architecture and environmental planning.
