To achieve the most ideal conditions for a flat, smooth ice surface, the rink area needs to be clear of all obstructions. The public is welcome to use parts of the park that are not cordoned off.

Conditions required for the construction of the Merlin Olsen Central Park Ice Rink:

• Sufficient snowfall of at least 8-10 inches
• Packing of snow to establish frost for ice sheet support (3 nights using trucks
to pack snow)
• 7 to 10 days of consistent temperatures (15-20 degrees below freezing) during
the ice building process of spraying an even amount of water on packed snow base
• Crews are able to build approximately a 1/3 inch of ice every 8 hours
• In a 4-day period, under optimal conditions, a 4-inch base of ice can be
achieved

]]> 7764 Merlin Olsen Central Park Project Update https://cachevalleyinfo.com/2018/09/19/merlin-olsen-central-park-project-update/ Wed, 19 Sep 2018 14:59:03 +0000 http://cachevalleyinfo.com/?p=3838 The Merlin Olsen Central Park (300 East Center) tennis court is NOW OPEN to the public. Screens will be installed on the south and north ends of the tennis court fence and Pickleball court lines will be added in approximately two weeks.

The basketball court is not open for play. There are two items that still need to be completed: (1) installation of perimeter fence; and (2) surface coat re-work on the west side of the court. Fence work will take place in next couple of weeks. Surface coat will be scheduled in the future and basketball rims will be installed. Work may take until the end of October to complete. In the meantime, Logan Parks and Recreation is asking the public to stay off the basketball court, especially bicycles, to protect the court surface.
