Future Planning for the Logan River Golf Course Public Input Meeting

The Logan Parks and Recreation Department would like to invite the community to a public input meeting on Tuesday, January 29 at 5:30 pm.

This citizen involvement meeting will be held in the City Hall Council Chambers, 290 North 100 West, to review possible options for golf course management and seek public input.

Summary: Our golf course is in excellent condition, but for many years has required a subsidy of approximately $150,000 annually. We are discussing options to privatize course management, allowing us to use $100,000-$150,000 for other park needs. The City would maintain ownership of the property and all trails would remain open.

Proposed Dog Friendly Parks Public Input Meeting

The Logan Parks and Recreation Department would like to invite the community to a public input meeting on Tuesday, January 22 at 5:30 pm.

This citizen involvement meeting will be held in the City Hall Council Chambers, 290 North 100 West, and is designed to gather public input regarding a potential one-year pilot program to allow dogs in parks.

Option #1 Designate 7-8 "Dog Friendly" parks across the city (either the total area of a smaller neighborhood park, or a certain area in a larger park) to allow dogs (either leashed or off-leash) at any time.

Option #2 Allow off-leash dogs during certain posted hours (both a morning
and evening time) in selected areas of designated parks (no fencing; areas
marked with signs).

Both Options would include:
· signage and educational campaign to encourage compliance
· dog waste bags
· would require Council approval
· would be reviewed after one year to evaluate success/problems/continuation

Work Continues on Traffic Congestion Management Plan for Arches National Park

Moab, UT – The National Park Service (NPS) is continuing the planning process for the Traffic Congestion Management Plan (TCMP), in an attempt to alleviate crowding in Arches National Park, and expects to have a final decision this fall.

As part of the process, park officials solicited public input on the proposed alternatives included in the draft plan. More than 400 comments were received. The park has been reviewing those comments and revising the plan in response.

“We received quite a bit of feedback on the proposal,” according to Kate Cannon, Superintendent of the Southeast Utah Group. “It take time to consider each of the comments and determine how we can revise the plan to mitigate some of the concerns while finding space in the plan to include some of the good suggestions.”

Once the park incorporates revisions to the plan, it will be submitted for agency approval before being made available to the public this fall. Any proposed changes to traffic management will not affect visitors in the park until summer of 2019, at the earliest.

The NPS does not comment on any specific revisions to the proposed plan until the review is finished. Superintendent Cannon added, “We want to get the plan right and you can be sure we are working on it.”

Point of the Mountain Development Commission seeks public input on growth with new survey

SALT LAKE CITY (March 9, 2017)— The State Legislature’s Point of the Mountain Development Commission is looking for Utahns to share their thoughts via a new survey for the future of approximately 22,000 undeveloped acres around the Point of the Mountain.

The survey is designed for those who were not able to attend the public input workshops but would still like to share their ideas about how the area should grow. The survey can be accessed through Envision Utah’s website or at pointofthemountainfuture.org.

“It’s absolutely crucial that we hear as many voices as possible as we move forward with this project,” said Christopher M. Conabee, co-chair of the commission. “We are thrilled with the amount of public input we received at the workshops, and look forward to more through this survey. We rely heavily on community members for input and ideas. It’s their home, and we want to help them grow it the way they want.”

The workshops were held Feb. 15 and16 as part of an ongoing effort of the commission, working with Envision Utah, to create a strategic, publicly supported plan for the future of the Point of the Mountain area including the current prison site in Draper.

Workshop attendees were able to share their ideas and concerns through surveys, discussion and mapping activities. Based on the data from the workshops, participants’ top concerns for the Point of the Mountain area are generating jobs and managing transportation.

“People want to make sure there are jobs for themselves, their children and their grandchildren,” said Robert Grow, president and CEO of Envision Utah. “They’re also very worried about maintaining a high quality of life, with the ability to get around conveniently.”

Participants also had the chance to share their “big ideas” for the area. Many ideas centered on green space: recreational areas, open spaces, trails, a regional park and a paragliding area. A variety of transportation strategies received significant support, including mixed-use “live/work/play” areas, building additional road connections to disperse traffic and expanding public transportation.

“We’re asking the public to share their ideas,” said Rep. Lowry Snow, co-chair of the commission. “This is an ongoing process. If we work together and take the right steps, the Point of the Mountain area can provide job growth and a high quality of life for generations to come.”
